How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I've always been a creative person. When my children were babies I knew I wanted to be able to be home when they were home from school. I knew I would have to create something that would allow this to happen on my terms. I tapped into what my passions were and painting/creating were what I enjoyed in my down time. I started the business w the idea that I would make some money but little did I know it was going to become bigger than that. I lost myself in creating new designs/finishes for clients and found I was happier when I was doing this in addition to being able to be home when my children were. I truly feel like I've been blessed w/ this business.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
When I decided this was going to "really" be my business I set out to make sure my clients knew I was different than the others out there. I ran my business like my first two female bosses ran their business...integrity/excellent customer service. I did this by giving them a consultation that included ideas, colors...options. Not just show up and say "what do you want"? I made sure they were going to receive quality Sample Boards...not on those flimsy pieces of cardboard but on sizeable wood boards. I type up detailed Proposals. Then when they go under contract I type up an Agreement. There are Signoff Sheets for approval of designs. The list is long...but ultimately I wanted to leave the client w/ the feeling you are going to be taken care of and there will be no room left for misinterpretation. This has been a wonderful 10 years w/ honestly EVERY client being happy. I may not be a big company but I am a success! My clients are happy and so am I!
